Why Visit Thailand?

Thailand is one of the most popular trips abroad for Nepali travellers. Flights are short and frequent, and there's something for everyone: shopping and temples in Bangkok, beaches and islands in the south, and mountains and elephants in the north.

It's known as the Land of Smiles, and you really do feel welcome. Buddhism plays a big part in everyday life. You'll see monks collecting alms early in the morning and golden temples on almost every street.

Start with Bangkok and a beach. With more time, add the cliffs of Krabi or the cool hills of Chiang Mai.

Most first trips combine Bangkok with Pattaya or Phuket. Passion Tour And Holiday Service can plan your hotels, transfers, island tours, domestic flights and visa, all to suit your dates and budget.

Travel Tips

Thailand Travel Guide for Nepali Visitors

Prepare the essentials before departure and check current official requirements close to your travel date.

Entry and Visa

Nepali passport holders need a visa for Thailand, applied for in advance through the Thai e-Visa system. There's no visa on arrival, and airlines check at check-in. Processing usually takes 5 to 7 working days. All visitors also fill in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online. We can help with both.

Weather and Timing

Thailand is warm all year, around 25 to 35°C. November to February is the coolest and driest, and the best time for most of the country. March to May is very hot. June to October brings rain, and the sea around Phuket and Krabi can be choppy.

Money and Getting Around

Cash is still common at markets and street stalls, and cards work in malls and hotels. Local ATMs charge a fee for foreign cards, so withdraw larger amounts less often. In Bangkok, the BTS Skytrain and MRT beat the traffic, and Grab and Bolt are easy to use. Flights to Phuket, Krabi and Chiang Mai are cheap and quick.

Dress Code and Culture

Cover your shoulders and knees at temples. The Grand Palace is strict about this. Thai people deeply respect the royal family, so never say anything negative about them. Don't point your feet at people or at Buddha images.

Plugs and Packing

Thailand mostly uses Type A and C plugs at 220V, so Nepali round two-pin plugs usually fit. Tourist SIM cards are sold at the airport. Pack light clothing, swimwear, sun cream and one outfit that covers your knees and shoulders.

Food Tips

Try pad Thai, tom yum goong, green curry, som tam, khao soi and mango sticky rice, with a Thai iced tea. Say "mai phet" if you don't want it spicy. Stalls with yellow flags and red writing serve "jay" (vegetarian) food. Bangkok has plenty of Indian restaurants around Pahurat (Little India) and Sukhumvit, and 7-Eleven stores are everywhere for snacks and water.
